Virtual reality and Unity 5

The promise of virtual reality has always been enormous. Put on these goggles, go nowhere, and be transported anywhere.

Dr Syvlia Terbeck has initiated a series of experimental research initiatives using the latest in affordable ‘VR’ technology; The new Oculus Rift Development Kit 2.

We have been helping with the initial set up and testing using applications that run directly to the Oculus from a standard windows desktop PC. In particular we have been working with the Unity 5 (Game engine) making scenes you can navigate in first person view.

Unity is a flexible and powerful development platform for creating multiplatform 3D and 2D interactive experiences.

Whilst still new to the Unity environment we have already begun to explore further applications beyond the ‘VR’ sphere and are currently working on natural landscapes with varying levels of pollution for an environmental psychology project.

If you are interested in either virtual reality or the potential of the unity platform please get in touch with us for further discussion.
